Lincoln City Visitor Guide - 2024

FURTHER AFIELD Driving North on Highway 101 As you wind your way north on the Oregon Coast Highway, pass by towering trees, grazing livestock, and rolling farmlands. Stop in Neskowin to visit the Ghost Forest (tree-stump remains of an ancient Sitka spruce forest emerging from the surf), then visit the Nestucca Bay Wildlife Refuge for glimpses of wildlife from birds to butterflies. Further north, the Three Capes Scenic Route includes Cape Lookout, Cape Meares, and Cape Kiwanda. Cape Kiwanda towers over Pacific City; climb to the top for amazing views. The Cape Trail on Cape Lookout is one of the Oregon Coast’s most picturesque hikes, featuring views of the ocean and shore peeking through Sitka spruce and hemlocks on the way to the cape’s tip. Keep an eye out for various birds on the wing, and whales spouting in the distance. Don’t miss the Octopus Tree, an oddly shaped Sitka spruce, and unparalleled panoramic views from the Cape Meares State Scenic Viewpoint. End your tour in Tillamook at the Tillamook Creamery, one of the coast’s most popular attractions. Ice cream or cheese — the choice is yours! PHOTO BY KARA WETTERLIN 70
