Discover the magic of Lincoln City's art scene
Art “reflects life.” The Lincoln City Art Trail offers a self-guided exploration through the city, where passport holders are able to experience local sculptures, murals, mosaics, and other art mediums that help define this special sense of place at the beach. Each work of art is displayed publicly and tells a unique story. Use the Art Trail to map the city and become familiar with the area while searching for selected locations. Follow the Poetry Path to additional local and regional artwork on site at the Lincoln City Cultural Center. Learn how the oldest piece of art on the trail tells the story of how Lincoln City got its name. Which work of art best represents the city? What is each piece trying to reflect? How many works of art focus on fish and other sea creatures?
Sip, Savor, and Explore
More than just a pub crawl, the Lincoln City Tap and Brew Trail leads to local craft beer, regional wines, and signature cocktails with plenty of delicious surf and turf snacks and meals along the way. Visit all four Lincoln City area breweries and sample various kinds of crafted libations, but don’t forget to bring a growler to fill with beer, ale, stout, or sour to enjoy later. Check out a few of the city’s favorite watering holes and relax with a beverage or two and some comfort food. Sit back and quietly take in the surroundings, or belly up to the bar and make some new friends. What place has the best beverages and food? How about the best atmosphere? Which location is just outside of the city limits? Which location has a rooftop patio?
Hit the Trails
Take a hike! In addition to the many opportunities to walk the seven miles of Lincoln City beaches, the Lincoln City Hiking Trails Passport maps out nine area hikes that pass through temperate rainforests—all within and just outside Lincoln City. The intentionally undeveloped open spaces allow for easy access and varied experiences. Most of the hikes are easygoing and appropriate for all skill levels, although two of them are considered moderately difficult and one is even moderately arduous. Which hike allows for stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and Lincoln City? How many hikes are located around Devil’s Lake? What kind of wildlife make their homes in the forest that the trails run through? Which trail leads to a 400-year old Sitka spruce?
Hidden Gems and Trendy Treasures
Lincoln City is home to so many vintage and antique shops that they have become a destination for thrifters and treasure seekers of all types. In addition to hosting an annual Retro Expo, held every February, the Explore Lincoln City also offers the Vintage Voyage Passport, where shoppers can visit the best vintage and antique shops and score a variety of unique treasures, collectibles, and all things retro. What shop has the nose of an airplane built into it's stucture? Which store contains an antique apothecary, pharmacy, and has all sorts of medical items, including instruments, pharmaceuticals, and elusive medical texts? Where are the best vintage clothes and shoes found? Who has the funkiest antique home furnishings?
Experience the Coast
Seek out local adventure with the Exploriences passport! Lincoln City's Explorience program provides a series of free, hands-on learning experiences led by local experts. The program allows visitors and locals alike the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and understanding of the surrounding culture and ecosystems. Choose from a variety of activities that focus on the many natural wonders that are found right here. Adventurers who complete enough Exploriences also qualify to join the Lincoln City Explorers Club. How many Exploriences teach people how to harvest different kinds of shellfish? Which one highlights hunting for treasures from the deep? What Explorience takes visitors inside a diverse coastal ecosystem?
Adventure Passports
How It Works
Where the 45th Parallel Meets the Pacific
Search for this bonus activity that goes beyond the Adventure Passports! Find the signs that indicate where the 45th parallel passes through Lincoln City and continues into the Pacific Ocean. The 45th parallel is a line of latitude that sits halfway between the equator and the North Pole (or 45 degrees north of the equator and 45 degrees south of the North Pole). There are two signs that indicate where the 45th parallel intersects with Lincoln City; one at the beach access near Chinook Winds Casino Resort, and another along the new walking path and footbridge on the northern end of the city next to Highway 101. What other epic locations around the globe are found on the 45th Parallel? What similarities does Lincoln City share with those places? Does standing on one side of the 45th Parallel feel different than standing on the other?
Care As You Explore
Lincoln City encourages everyone to use good stewardship at the beach: keep beach fires small and controlled and make sure they’re completely extinguished when finished, follow fireworks regulations, keep pets leashed, don’t approach or disturb wildlife, keep the volume low if playing music, use established paths and walkways to and from the beach, and be aware of light pollution and use only as much light as needed, shielded and directed where it needs to go. Never turn your back on the ocean—understand tides, currents, and ocean conditions to prioritize your safety and make informed decisions as you enjoy the natural beauty of the coast.
